(Cancelled) Third Annual DBEI & CCEB Research Day: Making Science Matter, March 18, 2020

Despite our robust knowledge base and big investments, the U.S. lags behind other developed nations in many health outcomes. How can we move our population science research from potential to real health improvement? Join us as Sue Curry, PhD, shares her insights on March 18,1:30 p.m., at Penn’s Biomedical Research Building, 421 Curie Blvd. Our full program, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will also showcase highlights of the latest work by our faculty, students and trainees.

ABOUT OUR KEYNOTE: "Population Health: Making Science Matter," this year's Brian L. Strom Professorship Lecture, is a highlight of this third annual event. Dr. Curry, recognized internationally for her expertise in translating research findings into health policy, will pose essential challenges:

* Does our research consider health disparities — and whether a given intervention actually risks increasing them?

* Does it help advance evidence-based guidelines — by leveraging effective methods to aggregate findings, and by addressing identified research gaps?

Dr. Curry has served as Chair of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force and is a member of the National Academy of Medicine's Board on Population Health and its Governing Council. She is a Distinguished Professor in the Department of Health Management and Policy at the University of Iowa College of Public Health, where she served previously as Dean.

Research Day is a joint project of the DBEI and the Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

8 a.m.: Breakfast, research posters on display

9 a.m. to noon: In-depth looks at high-impact faculty research: Hongzhe Li, PhD (biostatistics), Sean Hennessy, PharmD, PhD (epidemiology) and Blanca Himes, PhD (informatics), respectively. Followed by our popular trainee flash talks and prize competition!
